The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited are currently inviting tenders for a 2-year catering management contract at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, also trading as Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway.

Valid from 01/04/2021 to 18/12/2022 with the possibility of a year's extension, in their capacity as Catering Manager, the successful applicant will primarily be responsible for managing the popular Fireman's Shovel Tearoom at the heritage railway's main Furnace Sidings station in Garn-yr-Erw, Blaenavon, Torfaen, NP4 9SF. In addition to maintaining the facility's current success (including its 5* food hygiene rating), the Company is seeking a candidate who can drive h

What does the tender involve?

​

At a minimum, the successful contractor will:

​

• Open the railway's tearoom for a minimum of two days per week throughout the year.

• Ensure the tearoom is open and staffed on all railway running days, including bank holidays, Wednesdays in July and August, and late evenings during our Halloween Ghost Trains. 

• Update the interior of the tearoom to improve its general ambience/aesthetic.

• Take an active role in the development of the tearoom's current catering offer.

Requirements:

​

• A Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification or above (essential).

• Previous commercial experience, preferably within a catering environment (highly desirable).

About the tendering process:

• All tenders will be subject to consideration by the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited.

• Applications will initially be considered by Thomas Edwards (Marketing and Commercial Team member of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Ltd.) and Jamie Warner (Secretary and Commercial Lead of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Ltd.) 

• Both persons will then present tenders to the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited's Board of Directors, together with relevant feedback and recommendations. 

• The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited's Board of Directors will then choose the successful applicant.

Preliminary Terms and Conditions

​

• The contract will initially run from April 2021  to December 2022. 

• Any subsequent renewals will be done on a yearly basis and will be subject to the mutual agreement of both the contractor and Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited. 

• We reserve the right to alter any start and closing dates as necessary. 

• The successful contractor must be able to provide relevant self-employment paperwork proving that they are registered for self-assessment with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

• Please be aware that the successful contractor will be required to take out their own public liability insurance.
