Model Railway Club
Blaenavon's Heritage Railway Model Railway Club is based at our Furnace Sidings station, and is open to all members of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company or Society.

The Club meets on Tuesdays between 11am and 3 pm, and on Friday evenings between 7 pm and 9.30 pm.
Membership costs less than £2.00 per week, and we have several DC and DCC layouts in O, OO, OO9 and N gauges.
We welcome new members of all ages, members under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Our O gauge layout 'Morgan Road' features a working wagon pusher, coal tippler, sector plate and coal loading stage, all controlled by Arduino software and operated by remote control.
Our main OO gauge extensive layout 'Stonebridge Junction' features both DCC and analogue control over two levels and was featured in the August 2020 issue of 'Railway Modeller'. This features a coal mine with working lift shafts and pit head winding gear.
Our latest OO gauge project 'Hopkins Yard' is a wagon sorting hump shunt, again this is automatically operated by remote controlled Arduino software.
We have five exhibition quality layouts, 'Waenavon Road' is an OO gauge end to end layout approx 9ft by 2ft 6ins and is based on a small country terminus Western Region station.
Our N gauge layout 'Stonebridge' is fully automatic with up to seven trains operating at any one time, all controlled electronically. The layout is approx 4ft by 2ft 6ins.
Another N gauge layout depicts a small German station and is approx 3ft by 2ft 6ins,
Our latest exhibition layout is a highly detailed 009 gauge two level slate quarry layout entitled 'Quarryside Halt' featuring our own 3d printed locos. This is approx 4ft 6ins by 2ft 6ins.
The fifth layout is 'Zindelstein' an 009 narrow gauge Austrian themed layout that winds it way around a castle on top of a mountain. This is approx 4ft 6ins by 2ft 6ins.
Exhibition organisers are welcome to contact us for further details if they would like any of the layouts to be included in their model railway shows.
The club has been fortunate in being awarded a grant from Torfaen County Borough Council that has allowed us to purchase DCC controllers, including an ECOS system. This coupled with a new laptop will allow us to take a big leap into digital control. The laptop will also allow members to develop skills in programming Arduino projects to be integrated into the layouts.
Don't let the thought of microprocessors and electronics scare you though as the club has projects and layouts available for both beginners and experts. In fact the club is ideal for you to hone your skills and also develop new ones in a friendly and inviting environment.
Additional benefits for club members include a 5% discount off purchases from The Railway Shop and Eric’s Emporium and as a member of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway (both Company and Society) a 50% discount in fares on the Heritage Railway.
(On standard running days only).
The Railway Shop
The shop and emporium are staffed by knowledgeable members of the club, and boasts an extensive range of model railway supplies for you to purchase.
