Our Stations
Hop aboard at one of our four stations and explore the beautiful UNESCO-listed Blaenavon Industrial Landscape in style.

Furnace Sidings Station
The heart of our railway and the perfect starting point for a great day out! Situated just off the B4248 between Blaenavon and Brynmawr, Furnace Sidings is our main station and the hub of railway life.
There’s plenty to enjoy during your visit, including our emporium, stocked with toys, gifts and souvenirs, and the Black Mountain Coffee Café, where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a refreshing drink. You’ll also find our main ticket office, toilet facilities and a large, free car and coach park, making your visit as convenient as possible.
Furnace Sidings is also home to our main workshops and engine sheds, where the heart of our railway operations can be found. Looking to explore the local area?
Furnace Sidings is just a short walk from Garn Lakes and approximately a 10-minute walk from Big Pit National Coal Museum.
Blaenavon Station
Blaenavon Station is a short but challenging walk from the historic town of Blaenavon. Please be aware that the walk involves a climb up to the station from the town, so visitors should allow extra time for the uphill journey.
The town is home to a wealth of fascinating heritage attractions, including Blaenavon Ironworks, Blaenavon Heritage Centre and Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall.
Whether you’re interested in the area’s rich industrial past, its unique heritage or its local culture, there’s plenty to explore and discover.
For those wishing to travel further afield, a bus stop at the bottom of the station access ramp provides connections to the Eastern Valley towns of Pontypool and Cwmbran, as well as the city of Newport. See finding us for more information.

Big Pit Station
Big Pit Station is just a short walk across the car park from Big Pit National Coal Museum, a separate attraction that forms part of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales.
Visitors to the museum can experience an unforgettable underground tour, exploring the historic coal mine and discovering what life was like for the miners who worked there.
Above ground, you’ll find plenty more to explore, including displays of mining equipment, as well as a museum shop and café. Big Pit offers a fascinating insight into the area’s industrial past and makes an excellent addition to your railway visit.
For opening times, underground tour information and details of the museum’s facilities, please contact Big Pit National Coal Museum.
Garn Yr Erw (Whistle Inn) Halt
The station is situated right beside the Whistle Inn Public House and Campsite. As you leave the station, you’ll step straight into the pub’s beer garden, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The Whistle Inn serves traditional pub meals and offers a warm welcome to visitors looking to enjoy a drink and soak up the charm and distinctive character of this much-loved local pub. Inside the bar, you’ll also find miners’ lamps, a reminder of the area’s rich industrial and mining heritage.
For enquiries about food, accommodation or campsite facilities, please contact the Whistle Inn directly.
Located at the northern end of our railway, the halt is ideally placed for exploring the surrounding countryside and enjoying the fresh air. For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the nearby hills offer a variety of walking routes, with beautiful views across the landscape. Keep your eyes on the skies, too — you may even spot hang gliders launching from the nearby mountain tops!
