From Thursday 28th - Sunday 31st October our popular Halloween Ghost Train services make their long-awaited return! Join us at the spookily decorated Furnace Sidings station for a return trip to Whistle Inn Halt, with our ghouls and ghosts scaring you at your seat along the way. Fun for all the family!

Our 2021 Halloween Ghost Trains operate on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th, Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October. Services depart Furnace Sidings station (directions) at 4:00pm; 4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm, 7:00pm, 7:45pm, 8:30pm




All tickets must be purchased in advance via our official ticketing provider, TicketSource. These will be available via https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/pbrailway from 9:00 am on Monday 27th September 2021. 


Tickets cost £8 per person for those aged 3 and over, excluding an external booking fee charged by TicketSource. Young children aged 0 - 2 travel free, as do carers. Children aged under 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

All tickets are valid for ONE round trip from Furnace Sidings station. You may break your journey at Whistle Inn Halt and return by a later train, but please ensure that you arrive in good time for the last train back to Furnace Sidings (c. 8:40 pm)

It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the correct date and time is selected at the time of booking. We have a very limited capacity, and to ensure that everyone has the fairest chance of obtaining tickets at their desired time, we cannot offer exchanges. Please rebook and contact us requesting the cancellation and refund (minus the booking fee) of your incorrect tickets. 


Refreshments: Refreshments will be available from the Fireman's Shovel Tearoom (card payments only) inside the station and Little Dragon Pizza van in the car park. 

Toilets: Our main toilets (including accessible facilities) are located at the northern end of platform one at Furnace Sidings station. Additional portable toilets will be situated around the site. 

Accessibility: We are able to accommodate one wheelchair user per train with boarding taking place via ramps deployed by the Guard. Accessible toilet facilities are available at Furnace Sidings station. 


To protect our visitors, volunteers and the wider community, we will be taking measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in line with current Welsh Government regulations and guidance. Find out on our dedicated page here

SELF-ISOLATION: Do not attend the Railway if you have COVID-19 symptoms, are in the self-isolation period following a COVID-19 diagnosis or have been told to self-isolate by either the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect or NHS England Test and Trace services. Instead, please contact us via the website to discuss your booking. In the event that we are forced to cancel the event because of lockdown restrictions, we will work with our ticketing provider TicketSource to arrange refunds (minus booking fees) to affected customers.

Can I purchase tickets on the day?

NO. All tickets must be purchased in advance via our ticketing provider, TicketSource. For everyone's safety we have very strict capacity limits on all services and cannot accomodate any more passengers. DO NOT ATTEND THE RAILWAY IF YOU HAVE NOT PURCHASED TICKETS AS WE WILL HAVE TO TURN YOU AWAY.

What is included in the ticket price?

The ticket price includes ONE return trip onboard the train from Furnace Sidings to Whistle Inn Halt and back.

Why can't I book tickets over the phone?

Our Halloween Ghost Train services are planned, managed and staffed by a small team of dedicated volunteers who give up their spare time to make them happen. Whilst they would love to offer a phone booking service, unfortunately, the need to work around their day jobs and other personal committments mean that they cannot guarantee any set hours to offering such a service.

Do carers travel free?

YES Carers travel for free on our trains.

Do babies and toddlers travel for free?

CHILDREN AGED 0 - 2 TRAVEL FREE. Babies and children aged under three travel for three. Those aged three and over must have a valid ticket.

Can you accomodate wheelchair users?

YES We have space for one wheelchair user aboard each service.

How many round trips are included in the ticket?

ONE Your ticket is valid for one round trip departing on your booked trip only.

I've purchased tickets but would now like to bring additional passengers along - can I do this?

NO There are strict capacity limits aboard each train and we cannot accomodate any additional passengers.


Will NHS COVID Passes be required to attend the event?

At this moment in time, our team understand that NHS COVID passess will not be required for our Halloween Ghost Train services. Each train will accomodate a maximum of 175 seated people on any journey and operate in accordance with Welsh Government COVID-19 guidance for public transport operators. Outside, the above capacity limit and reduced number of trains will ensure that the number of persons on the railway's property will remain below the allowed limit of 4,000. Please be aware that the above may be subject to change upon further Welsh Government advice. If so, this will be communicated to visitors in advance.

What measures are you taking to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission?

We take the wellbeing of our visitors, volunteers and wider community safety and will be taking a number measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Find out more here.

Do visitors have to wear face-coverings?

YES - ABOARD OUR TRAINS AND INSIDE STATION BUILDINGS UNLESS EXEMPT In line with current Welsh Government regulations, all visitors aged 11 or over must wear a face-covering whilst they are travelling aboard our trains and inside our station buildings unless exempt.

I or someone in my group has developed COVID-19 symptoms/tested positive for COVID-19 - what are my options?

Firstly, if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have tested positive for the virus in the last 10 days, then DO NOT ATTEND THE RAILWAY. Stay at home and follow any current self-isolation requirments in place. Please contact us via our contact form (link) to arrange a refund.


Will the tearoom be open?

Our Fireman's Shovel Tearoom will be open serving a range of Halloween-themed snacks and goodies. A limited amount of seating will be available inside for the consumption of refreshments purchased in the facility only. Please be aware that this will be CARD/CONTACTLESS PAYMENT ONLY for the event.

Will toilets be available?

YES Our main toilet facilities (including an accessible toilet) can be found at the northern end of the platform at Furnace Sidings station. Additional portable toilets will be located throughout the site.

Will the Whistle Inn public house be open?

Visitors intending to alight at Whistle Inn Halt to visit the adjacent public house should contact them in advance to check opening times and make any necessary reservations. Can we eat and drink aboard the train?

Yes, you are welcome to eat and drink aboard our trains. However, please respect your fellow passengers and assist our volunteers by taking all rubbish with you when leaving.

Will there be undercover waiting areas?

Due to our social distancing arrangements, all waiting for trains must take place outside. We therefore advise visitors to dress appropriately for the weather conditions during your visit.


What's included in the ticket price?

One round trip from Furnace Sidings station to Whistle Inn Halt. Each ticket is valid for one round trip from Furnace Sidings to Whistle Inn Halt. During the journey, our volunteers dressed as ghouls and ghosts will interact with customers whilst following COVID-19 safety precautions.

How long will the train trip last?

15 minutes. Each round trip is expected to last fifteen minutes, inclusive of a wait at Whistle Inn Halt.

Who are your Halloween Ghost Trains suitable for?

Our Halloween Ghost Trains are generally suitable for those aged three and over. Visitors with younger children and those who may be nervous are advised to book onto the earlier departures of each evening.

Can I travel on any train?

YOU MUST DEPART FROM FURNACE SIDINGS ON THE SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE PREBOOKED. Due to strict capacity limits on each train, you must depart Furnace Sidings on the train that you have prebooked onto. For those wishing to alight at Whistle Inn Halt there we will be setting aside space on each return service to accomodate you.

Should we dress up?

YES - PLEASE DO :) We encourage all visitors to dress up for the event!

Are you pre-allocating seats?

No. On the day our volunteers will be directing visitors to suitable spaces aboard the train based upon demand and group size.

Will we be travelling in our own private compartment?

Not necessarily. Although there will be compartments on each train, our volunteers will be directing people to available seats based upon group size, aiming to ensure an even spreading of visitors throughout the train.

Are trains steam-hauled?

All trains are planned to be hauled by a steam locomotive. However, the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway Company (1983) Limited reserves the right to alter or cancel planned services with or without warning as circumstances dictate.
