Number 19 Returns

mail50870

A locomotive some of you may remember from years ago, welcome back No.19 to Blaenavon!

No.19 brought our first regular steam services to the railway back in 2007 and was very popular among our crews, being nicknamed ‘The Pocket Rocket’.

Following the expiry of her boiler ticket in 2013, No.19 returned back to her previous owners at Bodmin Railway. She has been stored there until recently being purchased by one of our members.

The locomotive was originally built by W G Bagnall in 1950 for the Royal Navy who deployed it at the Devonport Dockyard until 1965.

It is currently ‘out of ticket’ and requires an overhaul before it can operate again, this is planned to take place in the coming years.

No.19 is planned to be on static display at this years Annual Steam Gala, alongside Empress and Rosyth No.1. The event takes place on the 13th, 14th & 15th September. Bagnall no19 awesome thrash at Pontypool and Blaenavon railway mixed traffic weekend 2011 (youtube.com)
